Secretary's
ReportAnother year has flown by and you have to ask yourself “Where does the time go?” I guess that’s what happens with age. The same officers are holding the same positions with a new election format that elects for a 2-year term. Plus, there are a few new employees and program directors. First off, we welcome Mike Sprouse as our new Executive Director and he uses the same no nonsense approach to his job as a marine does hitting the beach. Then, we have a new Office Administrator, Stephanie Mojica, whose proficiency, attention to detail and winning laughter makes for a bright atmosphere in our chapter office. We also have David Ray as our new NSO at the Orlando VA Healthcare Center. Vice President, Ken Carter has taken over as Hospital Liaison Director and has given up a lot of fishing to get this important area covered in a highly professional manner. Board member, Brian Terwilliger, one of the founding fathers of the chapter, is running the sports program.
Happily, we’ve
established the Tri-Chapter meeting format;
which means all of us here in Florida can work toward the common good for our
members. We never forget our families and caregivers either for without them
our lives would be tougher than they are. We are always looking for ways to
increase our membership and participate with other groups such as the MS Society
and the ALS Association and never forget those in uniform serving in harm’s
way by having a Christmas Drive to help them or the needy families the leave
behind for their country.
We lost our modern
day Will Rodgers this year, that being Andy Rooney of 60 minute fame. One of
his favorite turn of a phrase was:
“What do you call a Native American vegetarian”? Why that’s
easy, “A poor hunter”.
