National
Director
A friend of PVA's, Scott Bogren, is writing an article on veteran’s transportation
for an upcoming edition of the Community Transportation Association of America's
(CTAA) national magazine.
Scott
is a veteran and director of CTAA's Vetlink program, that aims to improve transportation
for veterans by meeting the rising demand (http://www.ctaa.org/webmodules/webarticles/articlefiles/vetlinks1.pdf).
He hopes to collect various opinions and expert ideas on the transportation
needs of veterans, and reached out to us for assistance.
As PVA's front line representatives, you are best able to respond to the following
questions. Please take a few minutes to write some thoughts and return by email
to Scott at bogren@ctaa.org - if possible by end of January. Provide your name,
title/organization, and city/state or facility. And you have my thanks for your
help.
What is your direct experience with understanding the transportation needs of
veterans?
Assess the importance of reliable transportation on the quality of life of veterans
and their families. Is additional transportation needed and if so, how do you
think it could best be provided?
In your experience, which destinations do veterans most need additional transportation
to access? Of these destinations, which would be the top priority? What, in
your opinion, is the direct result of veterans not having the transportation
they need?
If you wish to write, his address is below, but email is faster.

I’m
looking forward to the Mid Winter Board of Director’s Meeting, February
14 through the 18th. It will be nice to see old friends and welcome new ones.
There are many important issues to be discussed; among them is the drop in donation
revenues. When people lose their jobs, they cut their charitable donations.
This is a very important part of our chapter life. Without funds, our programs
are unable to continue. So, think about this. If you have a few dollars left
over at the end of the month, they may seem unimportant to you, but they may
be the difference needed to cover our light bill or our travel expenses for
the month. Plan to make a monthly contribution or just send a couple of bucks
when you can, any donation is welcome.
Remember we are a ‘veteran’s service organization’. No money,
no service.
