Our Secretary
Recently,
on the Oprah Winfrey Show, President Obama gave himself a grade of B+. Our chapter
President, Steve Kirk, should receive an A+. He is in the office everyday from
morning until almost closing, working on a myriad of things, including keeping
our website up to date. No easy task. He also attends meetings and other necessary
functions in the community and at the VA SCI clinics both in Orlando and in
Tampa. My hat's off to him for his super job.
We had some health issues with members of the Executive Committee this year
and we find ourselves a bit short of Board members who have left for various
reasons. It's a daunting task to maintain a full complement of Board members.
But the chapter's still functioning as it should and all programs are running
smoothly.
Recently, at an Awards Ceremony, President Kirk presented Jerry Dugan the chapter's
Key Man Award for his tireless efforts, Ken Weas received the prestigious President's
Award for his work as Hospital Liaison and on our Outreach Program, where he
works closely with
the NSO department.
On a personal note, I passed the 50 year mark as a member of PVA on December
5th. I never expected to survive so long in a wheelchair, but improvements in
medical care and new pharmaceutical inroads have made that possible.
