Our Treasurer

Getting ready for our Audit this year was very easy because the programs we had running were not any larger than they’d been in the previous year. There were not any new programs to add because of a lack of funds. The audit was clean and fairly painless. As you probably know, PVA survives solely on donations, there are no government subsidies for the work we do. So, when donations are down, as they are right now due to the current economic situation in our country, our projects suffer for lack of funds.

Fortunately, we have been good stewards of our funds, while most portfolios were down this year, ours was up. This has supplied us with a constant revenue stream which, along with current donations, has kept us running. Not in the manner in which we’d like, with excursions into our vast area searching for veterans who aren’t aware of our existence. But, it has given us enough leverage to keep our various directorates up and running.

We’ve a lot of folks to thank for this. They seem to come out of the woodwork when we need them. Checks come in the mail for no apparent reason marked ‘donation’.

One of our members passed on, and his wife, grateful for our NSO who oversaw his care for years, requested that in place of flowers, his family and friends send funds to the chapter. The outpouring was wonderful. We received over thirty checks in varying amounts.

We’re now well on our way into the new budget and I feel it will allow us to expand our services for a greater year in 2010.
