Excecutive Director

Sometimes the ‘nuts and bolts’ of running an office tie me up and I forget what really matters. Then, the other shoe drops and I come back to the realization of why I’m here. This happened to me in a big way over the past few months. While I was dealing with the extraneous stuff like what to feed the Board of Directors for their luncheon, how to order new flags for the front of the building, and getting the WIM out on time, two of our guys went to total bed rest with pressure ulcers. And, suddenly the things I worry about seem petty. Working here, I have become too used to the daily grind. I see quads and paras doing great things every day and I forget how much effort it takes. So, before I go any further, I want to say that in my small way, I admire the stress you all tolerate on a daily basis without any complaints and I respect the courage it takes to get up every day and do amazing things in an uncooperative body. Never once think that I’m not grateful for your fortitude and your tolerance. You have my greatest respect. Get well soon, Jerry and Mike, we miss you. But, stop with the quad jokes!!

Everyone, please, get behind the Board of Directors on the raffle tickets. Call me, I’ll help you in any way I can, but we need people, actual warm bodies, to make it a success. Someone please volunteer, beside the Board Members, to sit in that booth at the Sanford Flea Market for a few hours on weekends. We only have from 2/2 through 3/13 to make a success of this thing. And the yard man, the post lady and the meter reader are tired of my chasing them. They’re starting to hide from me.

Please note: On 2/18 we’re trying something new, a General Membership Meeting with a twist. We’re setting up an obstacle course in the parking lot and giving prizes to the best wheelchair driver. However, don’t expect me to compete. I drove into a wall the first time I tried to maneuver one of those diabolical machines.

We’re very excited this month because we’re having a visit from our Liaison Vice President. For those of you who don’t know (and I didn’t) every chapter is assigned to one of the National office’s Vice Presidents. That V. P. is sort of like a ‘guardian angel’. They watch over our actions to make sure all is going well and that we’re doing stuff right according to our bylaws and our mission statement. Our chapter’s Liaison is Ms. Laura Ellington and she’ll be here to meet us and see what we’re trying to accomplish on 2/11. So, if you’re thinking about coming to a Board Meeting, that’s the one to attend. Exciting!
