National Director

I promised you, in last month’s article, that I would give you an update this month on the Mid-Winter Board of Director’s Meeting which was held at the Renaissance SeaWorld Resort here in Orlando from February 14th through the 18th. We all got right down to business the first day by starting off with one of the National Director’s requesting an interpretation of The National Bylaws on the correct voting processes.

The result, after many hours of discussion was that all business of the PVA would be decided upon by the “one chapter, one vote” rule. If I were a betting man, I would put money on this discussion coming back again and again. Time will only tell what will happen at the next Convention in Providence, Rhode Island. I think we’ll not hear the end of this vote for years to come.

The National Board of Directors heard and considered 10 Resolutions and for the sake of saving a tree, I will only tell you about resolutions of major significance. The first was our own Go Green initiative which failed to pass. At the chapter we think it’s a good, viable plan and we will resubmit it at the next National Convention. Another failure was the inclusion of additional categories of permanent paralysis into PVA’s Mission. There will be some inner rules about National Directors submitting their expense reports on time when they’ve received advance funds for their travel. Also, PVA will advocate for increasing the Special Allowance added to Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) payments to the spouse of a vet who was totally disabled (100%) for the eight continuous years preceding death.
