It’s with a heavy heart that I tell you Belton Smith is
leaving us. No, not leaving PVA, just the Orlando area, to take the position
of NSO in North Florida. In the time Belton has been here, he’s taught
me a lot about the VA and its workings, and he’s done it with patience
and a sense of humor. When I think about all the stupid questions I’ve
asked, I’m amazed at his unending tolerance for a know-nothing non-military
person. We’ll all miss his sunny disposition, his staggering knowledge
of all things veteran related, but most of all we’ll miss his willingness
to go that extra mile. So, to all of you in the Lake City area, you’re
getting a super NSO, appreciate him. His new phone number and address are: (386)
755-3016 Ext. 2236.
North Florida/South Georgia VA Healthcare,

Good luck, Belton!
Let’s
talk about something I’m excited about, both personally & professionally.
I love baseball. It doesn’t matter who’s playing, from Little League
to the Majors, I’m entranced and will watch for hours. I once spent almost
my entire vacation at my best friend’s house closeted in the TV room with
her husband watching the Little League Playoffs. I can now combine business
with my greatest pleasure. The Sanford River Rats have invited the US9 Military
team to come and play on July 9th. Yeah, I know it’s a long time from
now, but, we’ve got a deal. If we can sell a certain number of tickets,
CFPVA will receive half of the proceeds from ALL tickets sold for that evening.
So, here’s what we need from our loyal members. I really don’t care
if you live in Saskatchewan, send me $5 for a ticket and I’ll send you
one by return mail (buying 2 would endear you to me forever). You’ll have
a souvenir ticket and CFPVA will come closer to our goal. Just write ‘ball
game’ on the check, money order, $5 bill, I don’t care. Help us
to keep, funding Outreach, publishing the WIM, and doing all the other stuff
we do to make life better for SCI vets. We’re counting on you. I’m
counting on you!
Last but not least, I finally went to the Bass Tournament! Wow! I never saw anything like it.
Everything
is provided for, it all runs like clockwork, the food was great. Brian and his
crowd (literally) of volunteers can be proud of the work they do. I’m
proud of the work they do. The whole thing was so well done that it looked professional.
The winners are posted on the sports page.
Have a great month!
