Excecutive Director
I think
the pressure is off. There were so many things going on this spring that everyone
needed a special calendar to keep up. I’m not predicting that we’re
going into a ‘lazy’ summer, but I’m saying I would welcome
a slower period. The Bass Tournament was a great success. Thanks mainly to Brian
and Ann Terwilliger and all their efficient, savvy volunteers. With the help
of the other Florida chapters, we managed to accomplish a PVA appearance at
every one of the six ALS Walk held around the state.
There
were several proclamations issued in the area for PVA Awareness Week. As you
probably know, it was a full week celebrating all the good thing PVA does, and
it concluded here with the Bass Tournament. The proclamations were given to
our people in impressive ceremonies.
They
were from:
Charlie Crist, Governor of the State of Florida
Bob Dallari, Commission Chairman, Seminole County
Richard T. Crotty, Mayor of Orange County
Buddy Dyer, Mayor of the City of Orlando
Linda Kuhn, Mayor of the City of Sanford
These
were a wonderful affirmation of people’s gratitude for the service of
military veterans. They show that folks care.
Seems
like we have more announcements this month than news. Maybe that’s good
if it means that all our programs are going well and everything is running smoothly
and we have stuff to do and places to go.
Outdoors Without Limits has a handicapped shooting day every second Saturday
of the month. For more information call Ron Berry at (305) 203-1000.
One of

NOTICE
The Department of Justice has issued new guidance this week. It’s called
"Access To Medical Care For Individuals With Mobility Disabilities,".
This describes accessible examination rooms and medical equipment, and answers
questions about provision of treatment. The publication is found at: http://www.ada.gov/medcare_ta.htm
This is the latest in a series of publications from DOJ on access to polling
places, emergency shelters, hotels/motels, etc. All can be located at www.ada.gov.
