Technology Warning-Something to think about with our new electronic technology.

A few weeks ago folks we know had their car broken into at a football game. It was parked near the stadium on land specially allotted to fans. Stolen were a garage door remote, money and a GPS which was on the dashboard. When they got home, everything of worth had been stolen.

The thieves used the GPS to find the house and the remote to gain entry. They knew when the game would finish, so they had time and they had a truck.

I never thought of this. This lady has changed how she lists names on her cell phone. Her handbag was stolen with her cell phone, credit card, wallet, etc. 20 minutes later she called her hubby to tell him what happened. He said 'I received your text asking about our pin number and replied a while ago.' When they got to the bank, the staff told them their money was already gone. The thief had used her cell phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list for the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had all the money from their bank account.

Moral: Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people on your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Dad, Mom, etc. And very important, when sensitive info is being asked by text, CONFIRM by calling back. Also, when you're texted by friends or family to meet them, call to confirm. If you don't reach them, be careful about going places to meet 'family and friends' who text you. You know I no longer have 'home' on my cell phone.
