National
Director
I’m
currently preparing for the 66th Annual Paralyzed Veterans of America Convention
which will be held in Providence, RI, from August 22 through the 29th. The Fiscal
Year 2011 Draft Budget is here and I’m reviewing it page-by-page to see
how PVA spent FY 2010’s money and future plans for spending in 2011. Our
Meeting Books should be here soon and I’ll immediately review any resolutions
that have been submitted for consideration by the Board. Then, all the numerous
reports submitted by the National Staff, the Executive Committee, and other
standing or ad hoc committees. I’m currently serving on three National
ad hoc committees:
1. The Chapter Hospital Liaison Program Committee – a Resolution was submitted.
2. The National BER Committee – a Resolution was submitted for consideration;
and 3. The MS Committee – a Resolution is still pending.
Next month, I’ll be providing you with a complete, detailed report, including
the final approved budget numbers, the resolutions and their content and whether
they passed or failed. And, of course, the results of the National elections
for the FY2010 executive committee. If you have any specific questions or comments
prior to Convention, please don’t hesitate to contact me at pvaken@juno.com
or my cell: (407) 350-9128.
Last,
I would like to personally thank the CFPVA Board of Directors for providing
the funding for Steve Kirk, our Chapter President to be present and participate
in this year’s Convention. It is important to have another set of eyes
and ears so nothing is missed. Also, Steve’s expertise and knowledge will
be invaluable when making decisions and engaging in discussions for the future
of our Organization.
Outreach
Program
There
are so many other events going on right now or in the near future that I’m
hard put to pick any one to tell you about. The Florida Carriage Museum comes
to my mind as the most important. Please see their flyer on the inside back
cover of this issue. We are asking our veterans to come forward and aid us in
this celebration. Please, please, if you live anywhere near the Weirsdale area,
call Jim Trago (352) 789-1745 and offer your services for a day. He needs veterans
in wheelchairs to direct folks to the various exhibits and to tell them about
the things they’re seeing. It’s going to be a fun 5 days with a
lot of interesting things happening. Come on out and be a part of it and be
sure to stop by our booth and identify yourself. It’s always great to
put a face to a name.
