Excecutive Director

There will be no report from our National Director this month. He’s busy preparing for convention, but I imagine next month he’ll need a lot of space to report everything. It’s exciting to think of all those people gathered in Providence, Rhode Island just to decide the best course of action for our organization.

Nice goings-on here at the chapter office. We actually had two new SCI veterans stop by to introduce themselves in the past two months. It always warms my heart when the folks we’re working for come in to see us. One of them really lucked out, he arrived about 20 minutes before the Military9 came for lunch, so he got to meet the team and eat a hot lunch with them. It’s great for me because I finally get to meet some of the veterans to whom I write every month. And, don’t think for a minute that I leave it at that! I quiz them on what they like, and dislike, in the newsletter and always ask if there’s anything we’re not covering that they’d like to have us explore.

I invite anyone who wishes to, to c’mon in, we’re here daily from 9 to 5. Although, I gotta admit that sometimes we close at 4:30 on Friday if we’re not busy.

I’m looking forward to the election. Ballots will be in your hands by the time this newsletter goes out and I’m hoping this lil’ nudge will spur you to fill it out and mail it back. ‘Nuff said!

Looking forward, we’re planning another raffle since the first one went so well. This time I’m asking the powers-that-be to make it paper only, like tickets or gift cards. I was thrilled with the basket of liquor, it was attractive (a friend did the basket and it’s her livelihood) and it sold a lot of tickets. Then, I had to hustle it into my car and schlep it out to the Bass Tournament to be displayed on the evening of the drawing. It fell over in the car and had to be re-assembled when I arrived. (Didn’t look as good, I’m not THAT artistic) After the drawing, and I was praying someone there would win what I was starting to think of as ‘the thing’, I had to load it in my car and bring it back to the office. Yep, it fell apart again. I called the winner and when he arrived, I explained, apologized for its appearance, and yelled ‘Yahoo!’ after he took the thing and left. So, this time around, I’m opting for stuff that can be carried in a large envelope, and now you know why.

I know I might be a bit late, depending on how well the post office is delivering this month, but I want to wish you all a really great Labor Day!
