Excecutive Director

We’re coming into that season when there aren’t enough people to do all the things that need doing. There are tables at various Expos and Walks that need manning. It’s a simple job, just show up, sit behind a table and tell passers-by who we are and the benefits we find for veterans in wheelchairs. There is no organization like PVA anywhere in the world. Sometimes Debra and I (non-veterans) invite ourselves to go to these events just to give our stalwarts a break. I know they’ll hate me for this, but I want to thank Mike Sprouse, Frank Cole, Jim Trago, Kingston Lindblom and, most of all, the generous members of the Executive Committee for their dedication in volunteering for these outings.

It’s a fine thing for me to know that a few men are holding this together and can be relied upon. But, it’s not fair! Those of you who don’t volunteer owe them a debt of gratitude. I would like to have more names on my list. Maybe yours? Call me if you’re interested.

If you live in an area that’s too far from the chapter, call us. We may be able to put you in touch with other members closer to your home. I can’t give you a name and address unless the member has given me permission, so be the first in your neighborhood to get your name and phone number in my ‘little black book’.

A new idea is forming. We all remember a certain food that we’ve loved and wanted to have again. Usually it’s a recipe from childhood, mine is my great-grandmother’s pork and sauer kraut. So, we’re asking for those recipes. Nothing fancy, it doesn’t have to be on a cutesy recipe card. Just send us a legible recipe for something you’ve loved and would like to share. We’ll happily put it in the newsletter to be shared by others. In my mind I can see a CFPVA Favorite Recipe Book forming, but that depends on you. Right now, it’ll be enough if you send it and we print it. We’ll save my dream for later.

This is my last communication as Executive Director. Mike Sprouse has volunteered to take over the position and he will be writing in the next edition.
