Excecutive Director

Hello, Everyone.

As your new Executive Director I would like to begin by saying I’m very busy. One of the first things on my agenda was a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico to attend the PVA Health Care Advocacy Seminar. The purpose was to make all the National Service Officers and Chapter Hospital Liaisons aware of the 1176 Directory, the 1176.01 Handbook and the 1173 Directory and the 1173.01 Handbook. The meetings were very informative. One of the big topics, discussed in great detail, was the role of the NSO and the HLO. The proper protocols that need to be followed and how they can best serve the Veteran. We also discussed some of the issues of scheduling at SCI centers and how to handle claim denials. The main concern of the entire Seminar was the care of veterans.

My next important item, now that I’ve returned, is working on the mandated programs and assigning the proper personnel for them. Some will remain the same and some will have new people taking over. One of our major programs is fundraising. Since PVA and our office survive on donations, it is a large part of our mission and takes a lot of thought and work. So, if anyone has good fundraising ideas or has done some profitable fundraisers, call us, we’re open to suggestions.

As every one is aware, Christmas is right around the corner. We are hoping to do a Christmas gift program again this year. We are working with the local 143rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command out of Sanford, and the local military organizations. We are looking for five families, with three or more children and one of the parents deployed to active duty. We will send a letter to our members asking for a small love offering for these kids. If you receive our news letter and are not a chapter member, you may send your love offering to the office, just note on the check ‘military children’. We plan to provide gift cards to defray some of the financial burden so they may purchase food and gifts. These families have enough stress with a member being far away during the holidays. Your gift will be deeply appreciated.
