CFPVA WANTS YOU!!
The elections
are coming! Do you want a really rewarding position in a fine organization dedicated
to the betterment of life for veterans with spinal cord injuries or diseases?
Then call our offices and put your name in the running. In order to run, you
have to be a member in good standing and you must be certified with PVA’s
National Secretary. That process takes some time as you must produce proof of
citizenship, proof of active duty, proof of a spinal cord injury or disease
and last but most important, your DD-214. These documents are submitted to our
CFPVA Secretary, Connie Lukas. He reviews them and sends them on to the National
Secretary for certification. This takes some time, so get your paperwork in
early. We can’t put your name on the ballot unless you’re certified,
which also means no ‘thumb-nail sketch” of you in the newsletter.
All executive positions are available and since our By-Laws require an election
annually; the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary
are for one year. There are positions for two Board Members, each serving for
three years. Nominations shall be made at two regular Board/General Membership
Meetings preceding the election date. But, remember the time frame for certification,
so get your bid in early and be sure your papers are ready to go.
Elections are held through ballots, mailed this year on August 17, three weeks
before Election Day. After you mark your ballot and mail it back, and please
send it quickly, this issue is time sensitive. We hold the ballots until September
8th, then the Board, and any member who chooses to come, meets at the IHOP in
Sanford. We all have breakfast, courtesy of the Chapter. Then the ballots are
opened and counted under the supervision of the Nominating Committee, three
eligible voting members. After the votes are counted and the Secretary has verified
the numbers, we go to the last part of the routine. We return to the Chapter
offices where the new board members are sworn in and then attend their first
official Board Meeting.
If you don’t
want a full position, but would like to help on a ‘sometime’ basis,
call the office or come to a Board Meeting, we’ll teach you what’s
necessary and find you a way to help. There are many areas of our mission that
need aid, between advocacy, sports, hospital and nursing home visits, manning
information tables at various functions and all the other places we need to
be, we’re spread pretty thin and could use your help.
So, be in touch,
call us with any questions, and if you don’t wish to run, at least send
back that ballot marked with your choices.
